Children & Youth

Every Sunday Morning is a new chance for a child to experience God’s love.  Worship services, Bible lessons, seasonal special events, drama, music, art and prayer provide opportunities for children to discover their faith. Parents can encourage their children to grow spiritually by bringing their children to All Saints’ each Sunday.

Infants and Toddlers:  Birth to 3 Years care is provided Sunday mornings at the 9:00 a.m. education hour and during the 10:00 a.m. worship service in the Nursery, located in the north wing of the Church.  The Nursery is designed to provide our youngest ones with a safe and loving environment. We want parents to worship comfortably, knowing their children  are in the caring and experienced hands of our Nursery staff and dedicated volunteers.

Sunday School for Preschool to 5th grade,

Sunday mornings during the 10:00 a.m. worship service in the classrooms located on the west side of the parking lot.

Preschool (toilet trained): This introduction to Sunday School is a special “little-bitty” experience with Biblically based stories, arts and crafts, prayer, songs and snack.

Pre-K to 3rd grade: Children gather in their classrooms for Godly Play. This Sunday School curriculum is a distinctive approach to Christian ministry with children, both innovative and deeply grounded in spiritual tradition. It allows teachers to involve the children in learning the importance and sacredness of Bible stories and our Church traditions.

4th grade to 5th grade:  Children gather in their classrooms for a scripture centered  curriculum that incorporates the Episcopal “basics”, such as Episcopal prayers, sacraments and traditions.

The Children’s Corner is in the Narthex. Children are a vital part of All Saints’ and we want them to enjoy worshipping with us! In the Southwest corner of the Narthex is the Children’s Corner with worship bulletins for children ages 3-6 and 7-12, crayons and books for children to take with them into the service.

Family Worship Services are scheduled once a month at 10:00 a.m., there is a Family Worship Service where families are invited to worship in a less formal setting and enjoy a communion service together in Manning Hall. The 2005 dates for the Family Services are:   January 9,  February 13, March 13, April 10.

Children’s Chapel Services are scheduled once a month at 10:00 a.m. there is a Children’s Chapel, a worship service, in Manning Hall, for the Pre-K – 5th grade Sunday School students led by the Youth of All Saints’.  The Children’s Chapel is a group worship experience where the children learn about the rituals and process of “going to church” so they become more comfortable with the elements of worship. In leading the worship service, the Youth of  All Saints’ have the opportunity to further develop their faith. The 2005 dates for Children’s Chapel are:   February 27, April 24, May 22.

Junior Choir sings at the Family Worship Service on the second Sunday of the month in Manning Hall, as well as at other services such as Easter Day and Mother’s Day.  This choir is open to any student in grades K-6 that has a desire to “sing a joyful song”.  The choir is directed by Sue Westendorf and practices in the Day School Music Room on Sunday mornings at 11:15 a.m.  For information, call Sue Westendorf at 602-279-5539.

Vacation Bible School is a week-long experience during the month of July, for children in first through sixth grade. During the five half-day sessions, children learn what outreach is, how it affects others when we share what we have, make several different projects for selected agencies in Phoenix and finally, personally deliver the gifts they have made. The children sing songs, meet new friends, learn Bible stories and close with worship each day. This week of activities gives the children a chance to experience the value and good feelings associated with "reaching out" and giving to those less fortunate.

Youth Ministry
Our Youth Ministry seeks to enable young people to experience the presence of God in the ongoing life of the church as well as in their private lives. The Youth of All Saints' serve the church in may ways: as acolytes at services; helping in the nursery program; assisting in pre-school and first grade Sunday School classes and helping with special events. Occasional "fun" activities supplement many church as well as Diocesan activities including summer and winter camp sessions at Chapel Rock Conference Center in Prescott, Arizona. Youth ministry is made up of two groups:

Rite XIII for Grades 6-7 and Journey to Adulthood (J2A) for Grades 8-12: This is spiritual formation program for young people that provides a liturgical frame for their experience in our modern culture and celebrates their individuality and creative potential.  J2A also instructs them in skills needed for successful adult participation in church and society.  The curriculum is based on two key concepts: manhood and womanhood are gifts from God and adulthood must be earned.  J2A curriculum includes in-depth exploration of Self, Society, Sexuality and Spirituality within a Christian context and follows the imperatives of the Baptismal Covenant.  Finally, Journey to Adulthood balances Bible study, prayer and serious and playful activities to nurture the whole person during the treacherous passage from childhood to adulthood.  Confirmation is part of the J2A curriculum.

Senior High Youth Group (Grades 9-12):  This group meets weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. All high school students are invited!  The time together allows the group to discuss common Christian beliefs and learn Episcopal traditions in a sprit of shared faith and support.  There are planned weekly discussion topics and flexibility with the unique questions and joys of the group.  The evening includes games, activities, fellowship and prayer.  For more information, contact the Church Office.
