All Saints' Episcopal Day School students, parents, and faculty have given time and resources to many causes and organizations, including Andre House, St. Mary's Food Bank, the Arizona Humane Society, Thomas Pappas School, Maryland Gardens Nursing Home, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Toys for Tots program, Ronald McDonald House, Teach for America, and United Methodist Outreach Ministry. In recent years, the Church and School have participated in the Sweet Dreams Project, which provides pillows, hand-sewn pillowcases, and books to children in foster care.
At All Saints' Episcopal Day School, we view serving others as an important part of the students' formation as human beings. We also like our students to have a presence and represent our private school in the Phoenix area community. Students at each grade level, after discussion and reflection and with guidance from the faculty, choose a service project each year. Students are encouraged to care for others through these volunteer activities and then to come back to the classroom to discuss and reflect upon their experience. We want them to probe the systemic issues involved with why people are homeless, hungry, and without the necessities, they need to survive and thrive.
The Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen
