Dr. Emma Whitman

Emma Whitman is the Head of School at All Saints’ Episcopal Day School in Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to this position, Emma served in several administrative roles at St. George’s Episcopal School in New Orleans, Louisiana, including Assistant Head of School and Director of Early Childhood, Lower School, and Middle School. Emma was also Head of School for Rye Presbyterian Nursery School, a preschool for 300 students in Rye, New York. She began her teaching career as a second grade teacher in the South Bronx. She taught in both private and public schools in New York City before moving into administration. 

Emma grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she attended St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. She graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts with a B.A. in Psychology and History. Emma went on to earn an M.S. Ed from Bank Street Graduate School of Education in New York, and her Ph.D. from Erikson Institute in Chicago. As a doctoral student she taught Masters students and served as a research assistant and professional trainer for the Early Mathematics Collaborative, serving hundreds of teachers in a wide range of Chicago schools. 

Currently, Emma serves on the Board of both ISAS and SAES. She is also the Standards Committee Chair for ISAS. She is committed to supporting Episcopal education, and attends All Saints’ Church, where her daughter, Molly, was baptized.
