Beyond Doors and Cameras: Our Approach to Campus Safety

Beyond Doors and Cameras: Our Approach to Campus Safety
Dr. Emma Whitman, Head of School

You’ll often hear us say safety is a top priority at All Saints’. Here’s a bit about what it looks like in practice, plus the actions we’re taking to stay aligned with best practices and the best people.

Over the past several years, we’ve made substantial upgrades to our campus: new doors, gates, and a key card access system, additional upgraded cameras, a sign-in system in the front office, and several other capital improvements. Thank you to ASPA and our community for their support in making these changes possible.

Physical upgrades, however, are just one part of our approach. At the heart of our safety efforts is our dedicated, full-time Safety Officer, Mr. Damien Sanchez, an experienced professional who oversees all of our emergency procedures, safety protocols, and regular staff training.

In addition to his extensive background—including time as a SWAT officer—Officer Sanchez leads our internal emergency response team and works closely with local law enforcement. However, what makes him truly exceptional goes far beyond his impressive resume.

Every morning, before our gates open, Officer Sanchez checks in with me personally. He walks the campus, connects with students and staff, and ensures everything is in place for a day of learning. He’s a presence for all of us—he joins kids at recess, is there every day at carpool, and is always checking in to make sure our faculty, staff, and students feel supported.

One faculty member recently emailed me and said:

“We have a remarkable safety officer who demonstrates his skills and professionalism daily. Damien is constantly present, walking the campus, checking in, and knowing that we have him here truly makes a difference.”

Officer Sanchez is a calming and watchful presence for faculty, students, and families alike. We feel incredibly fortunate to have him as part of our community, and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to get to know him and celebrate all he does for our community.
