Service Day At All Saints’

When Small Hands Make a Big Difference

Last Friday was nothing short of extraordinary. Our campus buzzed with energy and purpose as every grade dove into meaningful service work. From pre-kindergarten students decorating cards and Halloween decorations for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, to fifth-grade students packing tens of thousands of meals for kids around the world, our students embodied what it truly means to live out the All Saints’ mission. Here’s the best part—

They loved every minute of it, and this showed.

When I asked students what they loved about Service Day, their words captured something powerful—the pure joy of helping others:

I made nice things for the children’s hospital. It feels good to do that." Kaia, pre-kindergarten

I liked helping, because helping is kind. We made kids feel happy with the cards and Halloween decorations." Eva, kindergarten

It makes people feel good when we help them. I liked coloring the cards for the kids at the hospital." Phoenix, kindergarten

We helped people, and that is what is important." Sloane, fifth grade

We went to Honor Flight and it was a different experience than anything I had done before. This year, we interacted with the veterans and the people. It was very fun." Golnaz, sixth grade

At the end of the day, we gathered in the chapel to celebrate our day of service. We sang Give a Little Kindness, danced, and cheered. Each grade sent representatives to share the impact of their work. Two fifth-grade students shared more about their day supporting Feed My Starving Children:

Feed My Starving Children believes that hope starts with food. They want every child to grow up healthy—in both body and spirit. We packed Manna Rice Meals made with rice, soy protein, dried veggies, and special vitamins and minerals. We worked in teams, scooping, sealing, and boxing meals as fast as we could—while having a blast! Our group, along with other volunteers from the community, packed 234 boxes—that’s 50,544 meals! That’s enough to feed 139 kids every single day for a whole year! How amazing is that?

These meals are sent to places like Haiti, the Philippines, and Kenya—places where kids really need healthy food and hope for a better future. It felt awesome knowing that something we did right here in Arizona will help kids on the other side of the world. We learned that even small hands can make a big difference when we serve with love. Helping others doesn’t just change their lives—it changes ours, too. We had fun, felt joy, and were so thankful for the chance to serve together.”

I am so proud of our students. Each grade at All Saints’ selects a service partner organization to work with throughout the year. This year, we have partnered with the following organizations:

  • PK and Kindergarten: Phoenix Children’s Hospital
  • First Grade: Phoenix Rescue Mission & Tempe Alliance
  • Second Grade: Keep Phoenix Beautiful & Mountain View Garden
  • Third Grade: Southwest Wildlife Conservation
  • Fourth Grade: Ability 360
  • Fifth Grade: Feed My Starving Children
  • Sixth Grade: Honor Flight
  • Seventh Grade: St Mary’s Food Bank
  • Eighth Grade: Feed My Starving Children

Service Day is just the beginning—a powerful launch to ongoing engagement that teaches our students that making a difference isn’t a one-time event, it’s a way of life.

As Eva so simply and perfectly put it: “I liked helping, because helping is kind.”
