Performing Arts

Self-expression through music and theatre plays an important role in the development of self-confidence, creativity, and an overall appreciation of the performing arts. All Saints’ performance-based program provides sequential music theory, develops performance skills, introduces composers and their music, and fosters a life-long love of the performing arts.

Students in Pre-K through fourth grade play a variety of instruments, including un-pitched percussion instruments, hand bells, tone educator bells, and recorders. Students are afforded many opportunities to perform vocally and instrumentally throughout the year.

One of the cornerstones of the Lower School Performing Arts program is the presentation of grade-level spring musicals by students in first through fourth grades. These highly-acclaimed performances are fully staged with elaborate costumes, colorful sets, and accompanied by live, professional musicians.

Students in second and third grades participate in lower school choir, and students in fourth grade audition for the Chorister program, based on the Royal School of Church Music curriculum. The Chorister program continues through eighth grade.

The music curriculum for students in fifth and sixth grades allows students to choose General Music and Theatre.

Students who select General Music and Theatre will be exposed to a more general music program which will include:  study of music theory; familiarity with recorder notation and guitar chords; study of a composer, his music, and an opera or symphonic poem; and a variety of musical and dramatic performances throughout the year.

Students who select Band will be assisted in choosing an appropriate woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. They develop fluency on their instruments by rehearsing a variety of musical styles, both written and improvised, and by performing on numerous occasions throughout the school year.
